King Henry VIII in his life time wished to be the lord of the whole of Britain and Ireland. He crushed the Irish revolt in 1535. He bribed the Irish lords conferring on them English titles and dividing the Irish monastic lands among them. This raised their status and affluence and led them to accept Henry’s over lordship. Since then Henry called himself King of England. Later his daughter Elizabeth completed the conquest of Ireland.
